New techniques and tools for information integration

Description

The problem of information integration is to provide a unified and transparent access to a collection of information stored in multiple data sources, autonomous and heterogeneous. These data sources can range from relational database management systems and legacy systems to web forms, web services or file systems. Nowadays, companies spend a lot of time and money in information integration. For this reason, research in this field is on the agenda.

The main goal of this project is to provide new techniques and tools that represent a significant advance in the treatment of some of the most important aspects with which we are faced up when addressing the problem of information integration. Specifically, and based on previous experience of our group, the proposed project will focus on the problem of modelling the integration of information which, among others, aims to answer the following questions:

  • How to model / generate the transformation between the global schema and the sources of information?
  • How to ensure the quality of the modelling process, as far as the definition of the data schemas and the transformation between schemas are concerned?
